Jakarta, Indonesia – [December 5, 2024] – G.C. Murray II, Esq., DPL, renowned for his commitment to justice and equity, delivered opening remarks in Jakarta, Indonesia, on behalf of the U.S. Embassy. The address focused on the critical role of the rule of law in upholding democratic values and ensuring equal protection under the law.
In his speech, Murray highlighted the foundational importance of the rule of law in American society and its broader implications for global governance and civil rights. “I am so thankful to be here with you all tonight on behalf of the US Embassy in Jakarta,” Murray stated. “This is a very special topic for me because I am an American attorney and have spent my entire career ensuring that the voiceless have a voice. The rule of law is truly the bedrock of any great society. It saved America in many ways, particularly through the Civil Rights Act, which focused on ensuring that every person, no matter who they were or what they looked like, would be equal under the law.”
Murray emphasized that the strength of the rule of law comes not just from its written statutes but from its accessibility and the people it serves. “The rule of law’s strength comes from accessibility. It comes from its people. The people that, if they come together, can be unified under its protection. That’s why it’s so important for us to have events like this…”
The event also introduced new scholarship opportunities for deaf advocates, in collaboration with Deaf Legal Advocacy Worldwide (DLAW), enhancing legal advocacy and creating platforms for inclusive education and professional growth.
